How Should I Prep for my Event/Wedding Day Hairstyling and Makeup Services?

The day is finally here and it’s time!! Your birthday moment, time to get ready to walk down that aisle, or just time to party!! Your makeup and hairstylist are coming to make sure you and your party look perfect, but your anxiety flares to make sure you’ve done all you can to be ready for them!!

Deep Breath! (Where’s the Lavender!!) Here are a few tips to make sure you are ready for your Event Hairstyling and Makeup services!

The Day Before - It starts the day before! I recommend washing your hair the day before (don’t forget to condition your hair in the shower and blow dry your hair to smooth the hair!). The evening before is also a great time to do a face moisture mask if your skin is accustomed to one. My biggest, biggest advise to my brides is do not, NO! Do not use any new products the week before the wedding. There’s usually a lot of stress the week of, and you don’t want to give your skin any excuse to deliver unwanted surprises!

Limit the Alcohol - A glass of wine a day, keeps the doctor away…with food! Well, it goes something like that (hehe!)! You don’t have to turn away all alcohol the week-of/night before the wedding, but I do recommend being very conscious of how much you’re drinking. You don’t want to dehydrate your body right before you want to look your best. Enjoy a good drink, with food, and say goodnight.

Sleep - Sleep is probably the single, most important thing you can do for your body and beauty for wedding day. It is very common for brides to get little sleep the evening before, but giving your body the time to just rest will do wonders for your energy and beauty the next day.

The Morning Of - Good morning beautiful! Today is the day we’ve all been waiting (and planning) for!!

*First, drink 2 full glasses of water! This will rehydrate your body after a long period of no water! Next, be conscious of what you’re drinking next! Coffee, though delicious and effective, can be dehydrating and contain a ton of sugar, which can start you off of the wrong foot in preparation for a day of liquid celebrations! Tea is a bit better and plus: antioxidants!

* Breakfast! (Brides!) Most brides are not very hungry the morning of (very ok if you are, I was!!) It is Important to have a little something in your stomach. A wholegrain muffin and eggs with fruit. This will provide good energy and fuel to start a fabulous day.

*Nowww it’s time for prep before your beauty team arrives!

Face Prep - Brush your teeth, put in contacts and/or eyedrops, etc. Go through your regular morning routine of rinsing/washing your face and moisturizing. This is a good morning to exfoliate gently as well, if this is part of your normal routine (Remember! Nothing new this morning!) Be sure not to over moisturize as your makeup artist will apply a bit more skip prep when she/he arrives. After you’ve finished your routine, now is a great time to apply any glow masks (if you did not do one the night before), as well as any under eye/face smoothing patches! (A small note on eye/face patches, some have been known to cause redness if left on the skin too long. Read the directions before applying and follow their instructions for removal.) Your skin is ready!

A few more tips for a smooth and exceptional Glam time!:

* Make sure the everyone arrives a few mins early for their glam time! This keeps everything running smoothly with little to no rushing at the end!

*Have a low-traffic, open space with electrical plug access, natural light (as available), and tables/counters for artists to set up and work off of! (First floor or elevator access preferred!!)

* Wear an open neck or button down shirt to remove easily after your beauty services. (Robes are great!)

*Make sure everyone brings their Hair and Makeup inspiration photos for the looks that they want.

*Steam outfits before hair and makeup services.

*Have details pieces ready for photographer/videographer beforehand.

*Assign someone else your phone so you can enjoy glam time!
